Opportunities and Challenges in a Context of Global Risks
Recent studies highlight an increasingly fragmented global landscape, where geopolitical, environmental, social and technological challenges threaten the stability and progress of society. However, this scenario also brings opportunities for cooperation, focused on building a more resilient and prosperous future, where leaders play a key role.

The “The Global Risks Report 2025”, by the World Economic Forum, highlights armed conflict between States as one of the main immediate risks, cited by nearly 25% of respondents as the most severe concern for 2025. This increase reflects current geopolitical tensions and the urgent need for diplomatic solutions that promote peace and global security. Although this study presents a more “macro” vision of nations, it is relevant to make the connection with the organizational world — regardless of company size, we all operate in a global market today.
Climate change remains a central concern. Extreme weather events, such as severe storms and heatwaves, continue to be the second most significant short-term risk, and the primary one in the long term. This recognition underlines the importance of intensifying efforts to mitigate climate change and adapting infrastructures to address these challenges.
Disinformation and social polarization emerge as significant threats to social cohesion and trust in institutions. Combating the spread of false information and promoting constructive dialogue are essential steps to strengthen the resilience of societies and foster unity.
In the technological sphere, risks associated with artificial intelligence (AI) and cybersecurity gain prominence. The rapid adoption of AI, without adequate governance, may lead to adverse outcomes, while the increasing sophistication of cyberattacks demands a proactive approach to protecting data and critical infrastructures.
Cooperation
Despite these challenges, the report emphasizes the human capacity for adaptation and innovation. International collaboration, investment in sustainable technologies and the promotion of inclusive policies can turn risks into opportunities, building a safer and more prosperous future for all.
The key to addressing these risks lies in global cooperation and the development of more resilient relationships and attitudes. By prioritizing dialogue, strengthening international ties, and fostering conditions for renewed collaboration, businesses and nations can navigate this complex and interconnected landscape, ensuring a sustainable and inclusive future.
In an increasingly uncertain world, organizations and leaders play a crucial role in mitigating global risks. Their ability to anticipate challenges, promote resilient organizational cultures, and adopt sustainable strategies can make the difference between crisis and opportunity. By investing in adaptable teams, responsible innovation, and cross-sector collaboration, companies and leaders not only protect their own interests, but also contribute to global social and economic stability. Thus, visionary leadership and strategic management become key factors for a more secure and balanced future.
Leadership
As we have all realized, the attitude and stance of certain leaders, from countries and organizations once considered as references, contribute to the escalation of global risks, uncertainty and conflict. The impact of leadership is absolutely decisive, for better or worse, whether we are speaking of a country or a company. Although the Global Risks Report 2025 highlights significant challenges, it also conveys a message of hope. This allows us to state that, through credible and visionary leadership, oriented towards collective and positive action, it is possible to face these risks and build a more resilient and prosperous world.
