When a Book Takes Happiness Even Further
With the proceeds from the book “Lemon – A Journey to Happiness” by author Sérgio Almeida, it was possible to provide concrete support to a Ukrainian family in a situation of vulnerability, hosted in Santarém by JRS – Jesuit Refugee Service, as part of the Communities of Hospitality initiative.
Thanks to the donation made to JRS/PAR, four of the family’s six children had the opportunity to attend a summer camp in August, enjoying a week filled with educational, recreational, and social integration activities.
According to a JRS volunteer who closely accompanied the family, the impact was profound:
“It was a week in which the children had fun, the parents were able to rest, and the two youngest babies finally received the attention they deserve. The children learned, socialized, gained confidence in the language, and joyfully integrated into the group.”
Beyond being an unforgettable experience for the children, the entire family benefited from a moment of balance and well-being before the start of the new school year.
This solidarity edition features the support and message of the President of the Portuguese Republic, Marcelo Rebelo de Sousa, and the testimony of the musician Pedro Abrunhosa, among others.
This is a perfect example of how small gestures can create great transformations.
